Celebrating summer with the grandkids

This weekend was our town’s annual Summerfest. There were bounce houses, softball games, food (of course) a craft and vendor show, fireworks, a dance with live bands and more.

It’s always a nice day to spend time with family and friends. We usually grill out with the grandkids and our children. This year was no different.

Not all the grandkids were here, two of them were elsewhere, but we got to spend the day with these five cuties!

We love the time we can spend with the grandkids especially in the summer when there is so much to do and we can do it outside!

Every year, the town we live in holds a Summerfest. We have not missed a year in a long time. Even with all the fun things going on, it is spending the time with the grandkids and watching their expressions of joy as they run after candy during the parade, or watch a balloon maker twist balloons into anything they want, even a tiara!

We just got done watching the fireworks show a few minutes ago and we are winding down for the night, but I just thought I would share this adorable photo of my grand babies with you all. Wish they could have all been here today, but we are very grateful for the ones who were here and for the joy they bring to our hearts and our home when they are here!

I would love to hear your thoughts. Please leave questions or comments below and I will get back to you very soon!

  1. Hi Karin,
That is adorable! I am so glad you get to spend such good time with your grandkids. I certainly loved seeing my grandparents when I was a kid.

Speaking of summer festivals, we just had ours here last week. It was my first time going to it since we moved here. I have always lived in Alaska but this is 20 miles away from Anchorage where I have been in recent years ( I grew up in a very remote part of the state and then in a small town before the city). I loved that this festival was like the state fair but so much more accessible. You don’t have to pay for parking or walk a half mile just to get inside!

We don’t have grandkids but we have our adorable God-daughter and having her is a bit like taking care of a grandkid I imagine. We love our time with her. She is only 16 months.

    • I bet that was fun to be able to go to the festival. I love being able to spend time with the grandkids! Enjoy your God-daughter! They grow up so fast.

  2. You are such a great grandparent, reading your stories makes me want to be a kid again haha
Thank you for sharing your stories and inspiring other grannies what fun things they can do with their grandkids.

    • It was a lot of fun. After the festivities everyone came back to our house and we had fun just hanging out in our yard. The kids played hide and seek and threw balls around while the adults just sat and relaxed and talked. Great day!

  3. Hey Karin, what a lovely post about you and your grandkids spending time together. I am 28 with no kids, but I like to spend time with my 90 year old grandmother when I have the spare time. We would go out to eat, go shopping, and I would come to her house and bring her favorite ice cream banana split, he loves some banana split. I hope one day that I will have grandkids, and I can have great times with them like you have with yours. Thanks again, and I wish you nothing but success in the world!!!

    • Thank you for your comments! I am glad you like to spend time with your grandmother! You can learn so much from her wisdom!

      Best wishes,
      Karin 🙂
